Unscheduled Cancellations:

If the school is closed during the day, class is cancelled. St. Bernard’s is Zone 1 with the BHNCSB. The school board reserves the right to cancel our bookings for various reasons such as school events, bad weather in the evenings, etc. In these cases, we will attempt to communicate with everyone about the cancellation. In all cases, if the weather seems unsafe to travel in, err on the side of caution and feel free to not attend.

Health and Injuries

MAPDA is non-contact sparring, and students are required to act in a way that is safe for themselves and others. Nevertheless, occasionally accidents do happen. If any injuries occur in the club, these must be alerted to an instructor immediately. For health events and injuries that occur outside the club, please inform the head-instructor if these will require any accommodation, including if someone just needs to take lessons more gently for some time. Concussions, and the possibilities of concussions, must be taken seriously no matter where they occur, and an individual plan to return-to-sport must be worked on and followed by each student if a concussion may have occurred.

Ju Jutsu

Classes may occasionally include Ju Jutsu aspects, including grabbing, breakaways, lockups, takedowns, throws, falling, and ground defense. While Karate techniques and kata can be practiced at home, Ju Jutsu should only be practiced in the club during specific Ju Jutsu lessons.

Shindo Hanbo (Short Staff)

Shindo Hanbo is a short staff martial art originating from Canada. Participation is limited to ages 16+, or Green Belt+. In all cases, participation is ultimately determined by the head instructor based on the maturity and readiness of the student. Students should be extra cautious around anyone training in Shindo Hanbo since the distance between people for safety is increased when using the short staff.
